Photovoltaic Surge Protection

Surge Protection for Solar Systems

  • PVT1 Series – DIN Rail Photovoltaic Surge Protection Class I for protection of centralized solar inverters on the DC Input side and string boxes.
  • PVT2 Series – DIN Rail Photovoltaic Surge Protection Class II for use at the DC Input of distributed string inverters in solar arrays.

The application differences between PVT1 and PVT2 are the same as for DT1 and DT2. It’s about exposure, hence the T1 units are tested using a 10/350uS waveform (Test Class 1) because they have to survive in the more exposed locations. T2 units are tested using the 8/20uS waveform (Test Class 2) to simulate a less exposed location or the second SPD in a cascading protection scheme
